Venturi Scrubber System — Copper Foundry, Greece

Wet scrubbing system handling 2,000 Nm³/h of hot exhaust gases from copper casting processes at a Greek copper foundry, eliminating fire propagation risk to the filtration system while achieving high pollutant retention efficiency with stainless steel construction for reduced maintenance.

Exhaust gases from copper casting processes carry high pollutant concentrations, while elevated temperatures and spark hazard make a baghouse filter solution unsuitable.

PM Engineering designed and manufactured a Venturi wet scrubbing system that achieves high collection efficiency while minimising flame propagation risk. The total hot exhaust gas flow (2,000 Nm³/h) passes through a precisely calculated converging-diverging throat, where high-pressure spray at optimised droplet sizing takes place. Due to the high velocities, superior gas–liquid mixing is achieved, causing pollutants to agglomerate and be carried into the collection vessel. A downstream mist eliminator section enables water recirculation, reducing consumption.
