Baghouse Filter Upgrade in an Asphalt Plant

Replacement of an undersized baghouse on an asphalt plant in Ioannina with a new PM324TF45RC unit — 324 ASPHALT NOMEX filter bags, 732 m² filtration area, achieving <20 mg/m³ outlet emissions at full 50,000 Am³/h capacity.

The asphalt plant generated a high limestone dust load (40 g/m³) at 120 °C. The existing filter had insufficient filtration area (360 m²), yielding an excessively high air-to-cloth ratio (2.3 m³/m²·min). This caused continuous bag clogging and wear, dust bridging in the hopper cone, fan starvation, and ultimately a severe drop in plant production capacity.

PM Engineering manufactured a new baghouse with an automatic pulse-jet cleaning system, fitted with 324 filter bags in moisture- and oil-repellent ASPHALT NOMEX fabric (rated to 180 °C). The filtration area was increased to 732 m², bringing the air-to-cloth ratio down to an optimal 1.13 Bm³/min·m². The unit was equipped with automatic safety dampers for cooling-air injection on overtemperature, as well as a heavy-duty high-temperature screw conveyor and rotary valve for uninterrupted dust discharge.
